Note
For all TESOL courses:
It is highly recommended that TESOL students bring a laptop to complete their coursework. Students equipped with only a tablet may find it challenging.
For all TESOL with practicum courses:
Practicum students should bring at least three business-casual outfits to wear during their practicum placements.
For TESOL for children with practicum courses:
Working with children under 18 years of age in Canada requires a police information check, which will be completed after students arrive in Canada. Instructors will help practicum students obtain this credential once the program starts. However, practicum students should be aware that there is a police information check fee of $75–100, depending on the city of residence.
The TESOL for Children course is a practical program that equips graduates with the skills to teach English to children. It enhances the foundational skills from TESOL, focusing on children’s physical, cognitive, and emotional development. The curriculum includes teaching reading, writing, phonics, and incorporating games, songs, chants, and drama for engaging learning. Students learn to plan age-appropriate lessons, manage classrooms, handle behavioral issues, and motivate children for long-term learning. Graduates are prepared for roles in private English academies, as online English teachers, or tutors.
TESOL for Children offers ample in-class time for discussing and role-playing concepts related to cognitive development and classroom management. However, the true significance of these teaching aspects is magnified and clarified through hands-on experience with real children.
Career opportunities include positions as private academy teachers and global teaching roles in the ESL/EFL field.
