Education/Program Progression Assistance

Vancouver International College (VIC) is committed to supporting all students in their learning journey and helping them achieve academic success. This document outlines the steps and resources available to assist students with their education and program progression.

We are here to help during your education journey in Vancouver.

1. Orientation

All new students attend an orientation session at the beginning of their studies. Orientation provides:

  • An introduction to VIC’s programs, staff, and student services.
  • Information on academic expectations, attendance requirements, and support services.
  • A review of student rights and responsibilities.
  • Guidance on how to access additional resources such as tutoring, counseling, and academic advising.

2. Ongoing Academic Support

VIC offers a range of services to assist students throughout their studies:

  • Academic advising to help students choose suitable courses and pathways.
  • Progress checks and feedback from instructors.
  • Referrals to extra support such as workshops, tutoring, or study groups if needed.

3. Learning Contract

A student in any VIC program may be placed on a Learning Contract for the following reasons:

  • Academic (e.g., low grades, lack of participation, incomplete assignments)
  • Attendance (e.g., excessive absences, tardiness)
  • Behavior (e.g., disruptive conduct, failure to follow school rules)
  • Other (at the discretion of the Instructor, Program Coordinator, or College Director)

Process:

  1. Once an issue is identified, the student meets with the Program Coordinator or Instructor and, if necessary, the Director.
  2. A Learning Contract is created that outlines:
    • The specific issues and areas of concern.
    • The goals the student must achieve.
    • A clear timeline for progress and review.
    • Responsibilities of both the student and the College.
  3. The student is encouraged to add comments as necessary.
  4. All parties (student, Instructor/Coordinator, and Director if involved) must sign the contract.
  5. Copies are retained by the student and the College, with an official copy placed in the student file.

The purpose of the Learning Contract is to support students in overcoming challenges, set clear expectations, and help them stay on track toward program completion.

4. Review and Progression

Student progress is reviewed regularly by instructors.

  • Students who meet their learning goals continue to the next level or program.
  • Students requiring further support may receive additional assistance or an updated Learning Contract.
