Admission Criteria
- International students are required to pass the Vancouver International College Entrance Interview and must provide one of the following: a score from a recognized international English language equivalency test, a pass in our entrance exam, or proof of English proficiency with either a TOEFL® iBT score of 79-80, a TOEIC score of 850, or an IELTS score of 6.5.
As the field of EFL/ESL education evolves, it demands teachers with robust methodology knowledge, a range of techniques, and classroom management skills. TESOL Advanced Online is tailored to equip aspiring and experienced educators for classroom challenges. This program enhances candidates’ English language knowledge, introduces effective teaching principles, and imparts practical skills for teaching English to adults. Graduates will be adept at seamlessly transitioning into EFL/ESL classrooms, both private and public, with confidence.
The program readies students for success in the dynamic educational landscape. Graduates will have a strong linguistic and pedagogical foundation, be capable of managing diverse classroom situations, effectively communicate with students from various backgrounds, and design engaging lessons. They’ll also gain confidence and skill through extensive practical tasks and learn to craft impactful teaching materials.Career paths for graduates include roles as ESL/EFL teachers in language colleges worldwide, including Canada, as online English educators, and as English tutors.

The TESOL advanced online program spans 110 curriculum hours and 20 practicum hours, and must be completed within a 6-month period.

Discover VIC’s Comprehensive TESOL Program in Vancouver
For students of TESOL Advanced Online, the practicum is a vital component of the program. This phase transforms the theoretical knowledge gained during the 110 hours of online study into practical experience. Over the course of 20 hours, students apply their new skills by leading classes, demonstrating their proficiency in the key skills and systems essential for language learning.
The practicum consists of a minimum of 20 hours, divided as follows:
- 10 Observation Hours: Observe and assist a sponsor teacher in an ESL classroom, completing various observation tasks.
- 10 Supervised Teaching Hours: Teach in an adult ESL classroom under the observation and evaluation of a sponsor teacher.
Practicums can be completed anywhere globally, provided the following minimum requirements are met:
- Sponsor teachers must have a minimum qualification equivalent to the TESL Canada Professional Certificate Standard One, Two, or Three (Permanent), or CELTA.
- At least 2,000 hours of experience teaching adults in an ESL/EFL classroom.
Approved practicums must be conducted in a classroom meeting these criteria:
- At least 80% of the students should be 18 years of age or older.
- A minimum of 5 registered students in an ongoing ESL program.
